An article appeared in the latest Lakeland Walker, which asks for volunteers to help 'Light the Wainwrights' at 0500 on Saturday 28th April.
The Challenge is being organised by the Surrey Branch of the Police Federation in memory of DC Heather Cooper, who was tragically killed last autumn.
The plan is for teams of walkers to climb to the summits of all 214 Wainwrights and light powerful lamps at 0500 on 28th April, just before sunrise.
Heather was a an outdoor enthusiast who loved the Lake District.
450 people have already volunteered, but more are needed.
If anyone would like to organise a Wainwright Society team (or teams) then could you let me know.
The organisers will want to know whether a team would like to climb a high, medium or low fell.

What Fell are you planning on doing Ray I think that the organisers sort that out, Ray. All they ask you to do is say if you want a high. medium or low fell. With 450+ walkers already, I imagine that quite a few will have already been allocated. Might be a case of 'Hobson's Choice'! derek

cheers Rob, That makes four!!
I've said we will fit in where ever, but asked if there is a chance a Fell near to Keswick would be good as I will probably stay in my caravan the night before and the N W Fells are relatively easy to drive to. I've sent an email but not had a reply yet,
I'll keep you all posted,

Just to keep folk updated,
I have been contacted by the organiser Ian by email and he has sent me the spreadsheet of the fells which was filling up very quickly! I have requested Latrigg as this is one of the easier fells and I hope this may encourage more members to join us. The event will have a get together on the Saturday night but I don't know where in The Lakes this will be yet. PC Heather Cooper died tragically last year and has left behind two very young daughters. There is a collection in hand with the daughters as the beneficiaries. I will being asking The Committee to make a donation but others may wish to help as well, in which case it maybe best to send monies to The Society so that all donations can be given as one amount. I will ask that this is sorted ASAP as the event is not far away,

We are up to five now so it's going well!! Looking at the logistics of the day, we must make sure we are in situ and ready just prior to 5am so it maybe prudent to meet in the Gale Road car park about 4am so we can sort ourselves out and then wander along to the summit with hot flasks etc in tow. Frank, Rob, Kevin, Lesley....we have to take our own light so if anyone has a very powerful torch or lantern please let me know. I would think the lantern type would be better as it would be seen from every angle. Should we retire for a hearty breakfast afterwards or find a walk to do in that area? Lindsay
