Following the publicised security threats surrounding Internet Explorer i have installed Firefox and imported my Internet Explorer settings.
I am having problems un-installing Internet Explorer though.....I cannot find it in the "Add / Remove Programs" section of the control panel.
Can Internet Explorer be Uninstalled? Is anyone else concerned by the security threat?
Thanks
Alan

Hopefully there should be a "patch" released tomorrow to fix this. In the meantime raise the security settings for the Internet Zone to "High". This could slow down page loading.

Alan - I'm afraid if your using a Windows operating system there is NO way to unistall IE, its one of Microsofts little quirks, they really don't want you to use anyone else's web browser, as if they could stop you! I wouldn't rely soley on IE for internet security, I would always run a firewall and virus protection on top of windows and IE, even then your not 100% safe against virus's, these companies who provide virus protection can only act once the virus has been found and you could be the unlucky person to get it first! The best way to avoid getting them is to only go to web sites that you trust and never open emails that you don't know the sender, pretty simple stuff but lots of folks fall foul every year!

I agree about not opening emails from senders you don't know, but it's not so easy with websites. If you're surfing to find information, how can you know whether to trust any site (unless one that is known and used previously without problems)? Have I missed the point?

You can't really trust any site David. At the moment anybody using IE should have the security settings for the Internet Zone set on "High" which stops scripting which I believe is the cause of the current problem. Doning this will result in slower loading of pages and not showing some info but is far safer until Microsoft release a patch to fix the current issues,

David - I use both Norton's and Macfee (on different machines) Internet Security packages and they can warn of malicious sites which may harm your computer. Another way of ensuring that 'scripts' can't access your computer is to 'disable' javascript in your browser settings to prevent any scripts been run when you open the site.

Ironically, depsite my best efforts and good intentions in protecting my PC, it died on me on Saturday
I am now frantically trying to save the contents of my Hard Drive!!!
I don't know exactly what happened and why, and i don't know if anyone can help but heres what happened.......
The PC failed to start and prompted me to rum my system recovery disk. I did so and the PC now boots up of a fashion. Whilst it is incredibly slow, I can get to my Desktop screen and open folders (ie. My Documents) but cannot open or run anything.
There is no Start menu and I cannot get it back and so cannot instigate a back up.
Whilst i can open My Documents and can see all of its contents, i cannot open any of the documents / photos. I can highlight and copy them but then i am unable to paste them anywhere.
Disaster!!!!
I am waiting for a friend to come over christmas and we will try and remove the Hard Drive and put it into a different PC with a view to extracting its contents.
If anyone has any other ideas they are more than welcome!!!
Thanks
Alan

Alan - your PC doesn't sound to healthy, but I wouldn't lke to guess whats wrong with it. If may be possible to remove the hard drive and plug it into another computer (you will need a connecting lead) and download your files that way, or if you PC is still recognizing the USB ports you may be able to plug in an external drive and copy/paste your data that way?????
