Just a minor question about guests on the forum. I am puzzled about the numbers of guests who appear on the count at the bottom of the home page. There always seems to be quite a few but they obviously don't get to see much or take part unless they are logged in. Would I be right in saying that we all appear as a guest when we come to the forum each time before we log in? If this is the case then the guest numbers are totally deceptive and irrelevant? Andy Hardly a topic for debate I know, but I was just curious.

Andy - I think you will find that lots of the 'guests' are either 'bots' or 'spiders' that trawl the web looking for content, they are written by people like 'Google' or 'Yahoo' etc to look for updated web pages etc, if the pages are password protected (like the forum) I don't think that they can access them??

They are probably a mixture of genuine guests and "bots". Not sure if the two categories can be seperated. BTW....why sign in each time?.....I use the remember me facility.

You can also set the system so it keeps you logged on permanently.

When you click on the Forum, but before you actually log in, you will show as a guest, until you log in.
The number of guests often seems to go up for a short while after a Wainwright Walks prog has been broadcast.

You can't actually view content as a guest, though? What's the point of being a guest? Or have I got that wrong?

I think you can view, but not reply as a guest!
No doubt Robert or Pete Bog will be able to clarify!
