Andy,
I have a polarising filter on the lens all the time but I have to be careful when to use it, sometimes the results can appear unnatural. As far as lens protection is concerned I have a lens cap over the filter, from a Yorkie's point of view it's much cheaper to replace a lens cap than a filter !!

John, The filter onn my camera is actually there to protect the lens from scratches/ dust etc when the camera is in use and they cost less than a tenner. I find the lens cap is not helpful in taking good photos as they seem to come out very dark!

Andy,
I suspect we've all done that at some time !! One of the advantages of an SLR is that you can actually tell when the lens cap is still there !!

Tomorrow I am due to take delivery of a new NIKON Digital SLR and I was after your opinions on what is the best sort of filter to put on the 18-55 lens.
The choice would appear to be 1) skylight 2) UV or 3) Polarising
All will protect the lens but which do you consider to be the best for the weather we tend to encounter in our beloved Lake District?
Many thanks in anticipation Malcolm Brabbs Bailey Lichfield Foxwist |

Not yet I'm afraid. Very frustrating. Will try and get out locally at weekend.
