Hi, I'm Trevelyan! « Thread Started on Apr 9, 2012, 1:19pm »
Hi all,
I'm Trevelyan and I'm proud to be a member having completed the Wainwrights yesterday. For the last 4 years I've visited the Lakes 34 times (I'm a teacher from Southampton) I have found it to be my spiritual home after losing my beautiful wife, Helen, to cancer in 2008. She was only 37. I am now 40 and getting married to my lovely fiance and fell-walking companion, Gemma, in Borrowdale in June, very excited! I have a website with all my Lakes walks if you'd like to see it. It's...
Thanks David, Am already planning my next trip. After spending some time on the peripheral fells (which I loved, except Lank Rigg where I was almost blown into the Irish Sea) I am looking forward to returning to those mighty beauties. My personal favourites are Pillar, Great Gable, Blencathra and The Crinkles and Bowfell. I also have a soft spot for Skiddaw and Barf! In fact there's not a fell I don't feel that compelling, endearing affinity with that I guess all us lovers of the fells share. At times, this relationship has been tested, for example, inching around an almost crag fast party on Jack' Rake which was scary and when Gemma performed a perfect ice axe arrest (not a drill) on Hall's Fell Ridge, Blencathra. Not to mention an icy ascent of the South Rake on Dow Crag etc Many of my beloved family and friends are saying, what next..The Munros? I simply reply, do them all again...and again...and again. I'm not sure they all understand! One of my proudest moments has been meeting Eric Robson and David Powell Thompson at the Bridge Inn, Santon Bridge, and then when David arranged for me to meet Joss Naylor, an absolute idol of mine. I always tell my class about this 'real' hero. He even invited me out on a run! Anyway hope to meet you all someday.
Hi Trevelyan, great to have you join us. Shame it took you so long to find us though. It would be interesting to know how you eventually discovered the forum. I had a look at your website but having difficulty reading the text. I had the same issue but then found that the ' Bold White' was easier to read when against black. I am a little blind though. Ray
BTW I was down Southampton last week ( Hedge End ) visiting family.

Look me up on www.artbyraybradshaw.com I like to paint people enjoying the outdoors in and around the English Countryside. Mainly the Lakes and the Dales. More recently the urban scene is included. I would like to think that if AW was alive today, if he didn't appreciate my talent, he would at least get my humour.
As Ray has said, great to have you on board even after you completing the mighty 214. I hope the sun shines down on you both on the big day, and wish you many happy trips to Lakeland,
A big welcome Trevelyan and Gemma and congratulations on completing the 214 - its sounds as though you've had some interesting experiences at times not only on the fells but with the people you've met.
Your family may not all understand your addiction but you're in good company on here as most of us are equally addicted. There will still be lots of new routes to discover and different conditions to visit fells in. Plenty more to look forward to.
Thanks all for your warm welcome. I am sitting in Costa Coffee, Southampton, after taking my class around the Titanic Memorial Parade. I'm not surprised by the warmth of reception as all I've met in Keswick, Wasdale, Ambleside, Glenridding, Coniston, have been so accommodating and friendly. You are my 'Lakes family' bound by our collective addiction of all things Lakeland! As I sit here, I crave being there, perhaps huddled up with a sarnie on Shamrock Traverse, or tucked away behind an outcrop near Innominate Tarn, maybe even in that incredible groove around the back of Pike 'o Stickle looking towards Esk Pike, and so on... As you can see, I really am addicted, as AW put it...'All true lovers of Lakeland are exiles when away from it.' Gemma and I have a long term plan, 7-10 years, by which time we hope to be living in the Lakes! So, I realise it's a bit early, but if anyone knows of any Primary teaching vacancies...
Welcome aboard Trev, and well done on your long distance completion of the 214.
As for wanting to live in the lakes - join on the end of the line
If you want a teaching job in Cumbria, keep an eye on the Cumbria CC website - if it's anything like Northumberland where I live, that's where the vacancies appear.
