Forum members might like to know the current position of the project.
Ron Scholes has produced the route map for day 1 - Settle to Horton in Ribblesdale - and it is truly magnificent. A real labour of love.
Colin Bywater will be doing two black and white drawings to illustrate each chapter. Of the 36 drawings half will be Colin's interpretations of recent pictures of places on the route that AW sketched in the past.
I hope to have examples for display at the AGM.
Any thoughts for a title? My original one of A Walker's Pennine Journey (with the emphasis on the A,W, & 's) has queried as a possible pun although none is intended.
Frances Lincoln I, Ron and Colin are working to have the guide book available during late summer and I have at the back of my mind (not yet agreed officially) an 'opening' date of 23rd September 2007 i.e. during AW's centenary year. He commenced his Pennine Journey on 24th September on 24th September 1938.

Thanks for the update, David - you have obviously been working very hard yourself to bring this project to fruition. Would be great to see some sample pages at the AGM derek

Hi David & Heather,
I think the title should remain as "A Walkers Pennie Journey" It seems to be just the right title and a fitting tribute.
It has been a truly remarkable acheivement for you both from the outset and everyone involved in the project but fingers crossed it will be published next year for the centenary.
I cannot wait to see some of the sketches at the AGM.
Kind Regards, Caroline

The fleeting hour of life of those who love the hills is quickly spent, but the hills are eternal, always there will be the lonely ridge, the dancing beck, the silent forest, the exhilaration of the summits. These are for the seeking and those who seek and find while there is still time will be blessed both in mind & body. AW- Book 7 The Western Fells. |

Keep up the good work David and Heather.
The only suggestion I can come up with for a title would be:
A Fellwalkers Pennine Journey
See you at Blackburn.

Having read AWs Pennine Journey I'm looking forward to seeing the finished revised walk description and hopefully following the route sometime.
Has anyone approached Striding Edge about a possible production based on AW's original journey and the proposed new route? Would make a grand addition to the Centenary celebs.
As the book is intended to be a guidebook to the original route, how about "A Pennine Journey Companion".

It was Wainwright's pun surely!
I agree with 'A Walker's Pennine Journey' as original thoughts are usually best.

An alternative title would be 'On Foot to Hadrians Wall'
