 Avatars (yes, again)
« Thread Started on Aug 24, 2009, 9:52pm »

I've helped others to get their avatar set up, but now I find I can't do my own!

Earlier today, my avatar disappeared, replaced by a message stating something like 'removed by Photobucket...'.

I then tried (several times) to reinsert an avatar, this time using Image Shack (following the instructions kindly set out by Derek some time ago). I paste the uploaded URL into the avatar box, click on the update button, but no avatar appears on my profile and the pasted URL has also disappeared. The 'show avatar' box hasn't been touched (still says 'yes'). It's probably something very simple, but I can't see it.

Any ideas?

David

I can't see why you should be having any problems David, most likely just a temporary bug in the system, just leave a while and try again I'd suggest.

I still can't add my photo (nor can PeteBog, apparently, among others!). Is there a gremlin at work?

It was August the 24th when David noted this again. Pete has it been reported as it seems this is a Pro boards problem.

I like to paint people enjoying the outdoors in and around the English Countryside. Mainly the Lakes and the Dales. More recently the urban scene is included. I would like to think that if AW was alive today, if he didn't appreciate my talent, he would at least get my humour.

So does ImageShack (I think) - I think the problem is in Proboards. My visage has been missing for several weeks now, but somehow the world has kept turning ;).

I have just copied this from another thread as it applies to this one also.

Well Mick good to have you back and resolving the Atavar mistery. I have managed using your instructions with photo bucket. It would seem you forum members using image shack that it is image shack that is now not working and not the forum site. I do know that Image shack was updated but I went onto the old version also without success. Dave try Photobucket and use the direct link and not the thumbnail option.
Cheers again Mick.

PS Pete you can rest easy now

Ray,

Have I missed something (like instructions how to use Photobucket)?

I have just signed up to Photobucket, but am totally baffled by it. I have tried copying and pasting all sorts of things (including URLs) but no joy. Can you enlighten me?

David.

David

Start an Album. Download a picture into that album. Go into Album and double click new picture. It should give you a choice of four url type addresses. Copy and paste all of the "Direct link" url into your avatar slot on your profile page. That should work for your avatar. Remember about pixel size (100 X 100)
The bottom link can be used to post an image on a thread using image button. insert between [img] *[img] and delete the "[img]" text at front and rear of inserted url .

Mick,

Thanks for the instructions. Unfortunately, I had tried all that, but when I double click on the image I do not get the choice of URLs you mention, only the standard menu )’Open link’ at the top and ‘properties’ at the bottom). I have tried copying and pasting a URL seen elsewhere (which includes reference to my photo) and pasted that into my profile, but no joy.

If, as I hope and expect, I am doing something wrong, then I am even more sure Photobucket isn’t user-friendly.

Being without my avatar isn’t the ‘end of the world’ for me (or others!).
