Load photos from my Phone to my Computer
« Thread Started on May 21, 2008, 3:12pm »

All my good ideas of having a phone with a camera facility has left me with the photos on the phone which I cannot upload :( >:(

Might be a bit too complicated for help on here, might need someone on the spot, but I'll give it a try.

The phone is a Nokia and I have a multi card reader for uploading. I can place the memory card in the reader and my computer recognises that it is there.

This is where I get the problem as a window comes up containing a folder named 'Images' but gives me no way of accessing the images. When I open it it is empty. I am wondering if I need a programme I do not have.

When I load the memory card from my camera I go into 'My Computer' click on 'Removable Disk I' (my memory card reader) which opens up a window with 'DCIM', I double click that and get '100CANON' (my camera is a Canon), I double click that and there are the photos. Then I just copy and paste from the reader to my computer. No problem.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Jenny

I've just managed to get them uploaded. Needed to load the Nokia programme on to my computer, then just connect the phone and load them directly. No need to use the card reader.

I got the phone just before going to Oz and it was a rapid learning curve getting my head round it in time to use there without sorting out the process down the line.

Usually get one of my sons to load programmes for me so was a bit before the penny dropped :o

Haven't worked out how to email from my phone. I'm still at IT nursery (or should that be pensioner ;D) level :(

Hi Jenny!

With 99% of mobile phones that connect to PC, you don`t need to use the PC suite to manage your files, whether it`s music, photo`s, video, etc, etc.

Providing that the camera phone you are using has the ability to store photos on a seperate memory card within the phone, my method is easier than using the PC Suite.

This is how I do it....

There should be an option in the phone for it to use either "PC Suite" (the program you installed to PC for data transfer) or "Data Storage", these options will be in the "Connectivity" menu on your mobile.

If you have "Data Storage" selected, connect your mobile to your PC using the supplied USB cable, double click "My Computer" and you should now see your phone listed with the other drives on your PC.

All you need to do is double click the phone and you`ll see all the folders that your mobile has automatically created for media (just like what you`d see on a PC), one of them will be called "Photo`s" (Maybe), double click the folder and you`ll see all your stored photos.

From there all you need to do is highlight the images and cut and paste them to a folder of your choice on your PC.

Hope that helps.

Paul

Thanks for that Paul,

Will give it a try. Still getting my head round all the stuff on my phone I don't think I need!

I`ve always had Sony Ericsson phones, they are so easy to use. I tried a Nokia N76 not long ago and it had too much stuff on it and even for me it was extremely complicated, so much so I swiftly got rid of it and got a Sony Ericsson K810i, one of the best mobile phones I`ve ever had.

On the recommendation of a mate I picked up a Nokia 6500 Slide and after vowing never to own a Nokia I`m really impressed with it. It isn`t too complicated and has the stuff that you`d actually use on it.

Using "drag and drop" instead of the PC Suite is so much easier, but if you get stuck gimme a shout. ;)

edit - I only skimmed through your first post Jenny when I initially read it, but if you suss out how to change your phone settings to data storage it`ll work in the exact same way as your camera.

Thanks again,

I got a Nokia because 2 of my sons have Nokias. Meant I could turn to them for advice instead of having to try to make sense of manuals ???

Will certainly give you a shout if I need help. Its a matter of finding out how to do things as you try to use them.
