Your avatar is revealing itself slowly on my pc. Is it me or does this happan to other viewers? All the others are just there instantly. ???

Wow - that is one slow loading avatar, once open it measures nearly 29mb and I'm on
a fast t'internet connection !

Stackshay, if you want a hand reducing the image and having it hosted somewhere
drop me a PM and I'll help you out.

If you look a few posts back you`ll see that I`ve already done it. :)

Stackshay, if you copy and past this url into your profile it`ll work perfectly.

http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg123/paulg75/sh.jpg?t=1201040727

Make sure you set the dimensions to 100x75 so it appears properly. :)

For some reason photobucket didn`t convert the file type correctly so eventhough the image is smaller in file size it`s in a format that the forum can`t display so I`ve done it again.

http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg123/paulg75/stackshay.jpg

Shouldn`t be an issue at all with this one. :)

See, it works! :D

As someone has already commented (and I'm sure it's a big blow to you all), my avatar has gone AWOL. I tried to change it (using Derek's instructions), but it didn't work. I have tried to re-instate the original avatar, but that has failed also. Any suggestions what might be wrong?

Providing the url you are using is to a proper JPEG format image that is hosted on a website there shouldn`t be a problem with it being displayed on the forum.

If you have the url of the image David I`d be happy to have a look at it for you.

Paul,

Thanks. I can't see why it isn't working (but no doubt there's a simple exlanation!). I'll PM you - if you can sort this out, I'd be very grateful.

Make sure it has got .jpg at the end. I missed this off one I was trying to load and realised the mistake.

John,

Thanks for the tip. I'll have a go later, with Paul's advice as well. I wish I hadn't bothered trying to change it, especially as the new photo wasn't very different from the first - sadly, it wasn't one of me and Julia! I definitely missed a trick there!

No worries David.

I`m off to my Dad`s in Leeds later so I won`t be on all day like usual, but I might get on his laptop later. Failing that, I`ll be back before the United match tomorrow and I`ll sort it for you then if you haven`t already sussed it out yourself. :)

Paul,

Thanks. I'll be in and out today. I tried again just now. It all seems OK (the URL is posted correctly into the box) but when I press the modify profile box, the avatar doesn't show. I went back into the modify profile page and the URL I had justed pasted in was missing (i.e. the box is blank). Also there are no dimensions shown in the boxes. Does any of this give a clue to the problem?

It sounds to me that the image isn`t a JPEG, that`s usually teh reason why it won`t display and then disappear from the url field in your profile.

I`ll be here for another couple of hours so if you have time you can either post the link to teh image in this thread or PM it to me and I`ll sort and send you the correct url back when its fixed.

Thought I would say thanks to Martin for ''showing me how to'' put my avatar on. Its of my namesake, 'Corbiere' lighthouse. One of my favourite sights whilst walking the cliffs in Jersey.

Thanks again Martin, you a good 'un
