 Society ascent of Sharp Edge????
« Thread Started on Apr 17, 2012, 9:23am »

Morning folks,

Fuelled by looking at Andy Beck's photos of Sharp Edge, I remembered that on several occasions I have had conversations with Society member's who said that they would love to have a go at Sharp Edge, but would prefer to have some company with them to give them a bit of confidence. So the idea of a Society ascent has rattled on for a while and I just wondered if anyone fancied firming up the idea?
Obviously it would be in the lap of the Gods regarding weather etc, but I thought that there maybe a few of us around the last week of The Challenge, that's Monday 21st of May to Sunday 27th. Saturday 26th is the Society walk, and folk will need to have time for their own Challenge walk, but if we come up with a day now, maybe this will come off.
So, how about we look at Wednesday 23rd May as a possibility ? Should be a bit quieter being midweek.
Over to you,

Lindsay

Lindsay,

Are you sure it's Sharp Edge? I thought we were planning a Jacks Rake trip? Or is that for later?

For those unsure I have knocked together a little set of pics I took on Sharp Edge last June. It may be easier this way than backtracking through my earlier posts. It may help folks decide yea or nay.

Frank.

Frank

I think both Sharp Edge and Jack's Rake have been considered at different times. Thanks for your photos of former.

Another great set of photos of Sharp Edge in Andy Beck's Mungrisdale to Mungrisdale Common thread on this board.

Lindsay

You can certainly put us in for Sharp Edge, Kevin's done it but I chickened out ::), but, as you say, its a bit weather dependent.

I have done it a few times and so will probably give it a miss as I will be concentrating on Wainwright's still to be achieved. Bross said he will hold Lizzies hand across SE if you want to give him a lift. :-*

Look me up on www.artbyraybradshaw.com
I like to paint people enjoying the outdoors in and around the English Countryside. Mainly the Lakes and the Dales. More recently the urban scene is included. I would like to think that if AW was alive today, if he didn't appreciate my talent, he would at least get my humour.

Thanks for posting the photos Frank,

As Jenny has mentioned, both Sharp Edge and Jacks Rake have been the subject of speculation, but I think Sharp Edge has had a bit more air time. Jacks Rake for July then? ;)

Lindsay,

Both are fine with me then and I have put the 23rd May in the diary for now. Of course if we are heading straight for Sharp Edge we will end up on Atkinson Pike and will then need to walk across the top for Blencathra summit.

Have you thought of a route back down? Presumably Doddick Fell if we are starting from Scales; or is there going to be anyone keen to get on to Mungrisdale Common ;D

Cheers Frank,

Mungrisedale Common is tempting; it would be my third ascent :o, however I've never been up nor down Doddick, so Doddick it is for me ;D

I must have a different member section from you because I can't find 'challenge walk get togethers'.
