 Winter Day on Mellbreak
« Thread Started on Mar 2, 2012, 4:38pm »

Mellbreak is a lovely fell, often referred to as an upturned boat, the views are superb and I enjoy the lakeside return. Oh yes the Kirkstile Inn is exceptionally welcoming on your return...

Quite agree, Mellbreak is a great fell and offers some good views.
I Think the holly tree in the valley is one of the few individual trees that appear on a map, in fact it may be the only one but I guess someone on the forum can clarify that ?

Mellbreak's always worth a walk, lots of variety and no push over for its height. the walk back along Crummock has been described as a connoisseur's lakeside walk, delightful.

Some great views there and definitely no push over as Jenny says.

I did the North End ascent a few weeks back but also included Hen Comb onto my return. I must do that Crummock path walk as to date I have not.

Look me up on www.artbyraybradshaw.com
I like to paint people enjoying the outdoors in and around the English Countryside. Mainly the Lakes and the Dales. More recently the urban scene is included. I would like to think that if AW was alive today, if he didn't appreciate my talent, he would at least get my humour.

Mellbreak looks completely impenetrable from the approach and even up close doesn't it.

It was actually a visit to the Kirkstile Inn a few years back that 1st piqued my interest in fell walking. I remember looking up at the fell thinking that it must ber very difficult to climb (little did I know then that it wasn't quote the craggy pyramid it appeared to be).

It was one of the 1st ones I climbed once I got out there on the fells.
