It's about being sensible, I've walked in deserts and the Arctic but always take what I need, most based on experience, sometimes I will "Cache" my rucksack if it's a short out and back on a good day but feels strange whenever I do.
Happy holidays Monty

There is something in one of PGs about taking too much on the feels (could be the Western Fells). There is a point, especially in the summer, about carrying about more stuff than you will ever need.

Are there any forum members who are MRT members, fell-runners or both?
It would be interesting to hear their opinion on how much weight to carry - I'm pretty sure some people from the MRTs do run in the fells, and you have to travel light then.

A good daysack br] (1) Sleeping bag, roll mat and bivy bag. (gore-tex or the equivalent) (2) Two days food, hot flask and a ltr of cold liquid. (bag of Murray Mints-optional !!)
(3) Map, compass , headlight & whistle. (no,I don't have a mobile phone)
(4) Waterproofs .
I would not feel comfortable unless I had the above.

Hey. I agree totally, you can't carry too much kit. But the one thing i have learned over the years (especially the years when i was wearing green!) Ditch the pack, and carry your kit in belt bags. All the weight kept off your back is a bonus. I can do an entire 12 hour walk with kit bags on my belt. No more sweaty back! It makes a massive difference, trust me. Iain.

What belt system are you using Iain? I've never seen any of a good size for use, look forward to your reply.
