Congratulations, Andy (once again!). Does that mean that Zeta is a Canine Completer?

Yep, Zeta is one of the canine completers, she looks forward to seeing the appropriate list with her name on it. ;)

Everybody nose that you're barking up the wrong tree with these dog puns. Hopefully, these dog jokes will tail off and there will be a suitably long paws whilst we all get over them!! ::)

Derek asks why Brock Crags? Kind of accidental. I didn't set out deliberately to do all 214, and it was just a few years ago that I realised I had ticked off a lot, and might go for the rest. I had an idea about finishing on my 60th birthday, and decided to save a relatively easy, accessible hill so I could take family, friends, cakes etc with me. BC fit the bill, as I'd done all the other "drive up and do it in a day" fells. Then the pace accelerated, and I finished two years ahead of being 60, so there was no cake, just a couple of pals, and a very small bottle of champagne! The full story (naturally) will appear in Cumbria magazine some time in the next few months.

The latest names to be added to the '214 Completers Register' are:-

Jack Woods who completed on Barrow on the 25.09.10
Robin Oatridge who completed on Sca Fell Pike on the 18.09.09
Frank Cosentino who completed on Pillar on the 08.08.10

Congratulations to all three!

Some interesting facts looking at the completions.

Those who have registered their completion of the 214 fells in the Lake District list 57 different fells as the ones they first ascended. The most popular of these are: Catbells (10.3%), Helvellyn (8.27%), Grizedale Pike, Helm Crag & Scafell Pike (all 4.8%),

Which is the most popular fell used to finish the round of 214? Again, looking at the list, 66 different fells have been used to celebrate this completion. The most popular of these is Great End (11.7%) followed by Castle Crag (5.5%), Mellbreak (4.8%) with Scafell Pike and Starling Dodd both on 3.4%

Surprisingly neither of the magnificent looking fells of Great Gable nor Blencathra make the top five in either first or last fell ascended, whereas Scafell Pike is the only fell to appear in both lists. Perhaps this says something about man’s obsession of always wanting to climb the highest summit. In the Himalayas, K2 is certainly a better looking, and reputedly a more difficult mountain to climb than Everest yet it is always the latter that grabs the attention and I suppose much the same can be said in the comparison with Great Gable & Blencathra vs. Scafell Pike. I know I certainly prefer the view from Gable to that from the Pike!
